Ingredient: Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is a clear liquid that is insoluble in water. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is used in the formulation of many types of beauty products, including sunscreens and makeup products that marketed to contain ingredients that protect the skin from the sun. It is often listed as Octinoxate on sunscreen products. When you see on the ingredient listed for shampoos and other hair care products is it being used to protect these personal care products from deterioration caused by UV rays. UV light has a wavelength shorter than visible light. Prolonged exposure to UV light may result in health effects in the skin, eye and immune system. UV light damages collagen and contributes to aging of skin. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (Octinoxate) can help protect against sunburn and other skin damage caused by UV light by absorbing UV radiation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an OTC (over the counter) drug review of Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and did approve it for use in sunscreens up to a concentration of 7.5%. There are some studies that this ingredient may produce excess reactive oxygen species that can interfere with cellular signaling, cause mutations, and lead to cell death. This reaction may also be implicated in cardiovascular disease. However, another study concluded that octyl methoxycinnamate and other sun screening agents do not penetrate the outer skin in sufficient concentration to cause any significant toxicity. Once again, we as consumers need to balance the benefits of the ingredients against the harmful side effects.

The Correct Way to Tease Your Hair
A lasting boost and serious elevation require some time commitment and skill. It starts with teasing. But, before you begin, make sure hair is complete dry and de-knotted. Use a fine-tooth comb or a tail comb to separate a section of hair at the front. Clip it to the side. Take a section at the crown area and hold it straight up. TIP: lightly spray a working hairspray at the roots to keep up the volume all day. This next step is crucial. The wrong way to tease hair is starting at the end and moving the comb up and down. It will tangle the hair and it is a nightmare to comb out. Instead, start at the mid-shaft and push the comb down to the roots. Pull the comb out and start from the mid-shaft and backcomb again. Finally, comb the swept-aside section of the teased bump. A quick reminder: comb out the tease with a wide-tooth comb before you head to the shower to shampoo!

Everything Mousse
Perfect style takes more than just hairspray! One of the favorite styling products is Mousse. It's so underrated, so misused and yet it is the perfect styling product for that perfect at-home blowout (or artfully disheveled waves). Used correctly, it can give you incredible lift and weightless texture. It comes in formulas from light to extreme hold. But it all comes down to application and styling tools. You need a vented brush. Mousse is added to your hair for extra volume & shine. The name is a French term meaning foam. It was Mousse Mania when it was introduced in the 1980's era of big hair. Most of today's mousse products also provide extra conditioning. It works by using synthetic resins to coat the hairs and assist it in taking shape. It can also be used on curly or permed hair to reduce frizz. As a versatile hair styling product, hair mousse is a popular choice for both short and long hairstyles. When hair mousse is applied to wet hair that is allowed to air dry, the hair is often left with a "wet" look that can be "crunchy" feeling, but unlike hair gel, hair mousse combs out easily for a softer look. When hair mousse is applied to wet hair that is dried with a hair dryer, it provides additional volume and hold. HOW TO USE: Thin hair types looking to achieve thick/fuller hair: Requires a "˜volumizing' mousse. With this, you need to ensure you hair is a bit damp for the product to seal, flip your head (head facing the floor), distribute the mousse from roots to ends evenly, which can be properly done by using a comb or hairbrush. Then to finish, and add complete fullness, use a blow dryer with your head flipped upside down for 10-15 minutes. Straight or wavy hair types looking for curly hair: For this look you will need: curlers, hair spray and mousse. This is exactly like the sections stated above, however you will need to add curlers while your hair is damp. In order to do this properly, section your hair in small sections while you apply mousse and curlers. Once the hair is dry, add hair spray to each curl from the roots to ends to ensure you receive long lasting results WHAT TO BUY: There are many mousse products available now. In fact, most professional hair care product brands have a mousse. Some have more than one, depending on what you are looking for in your style. There are mousse's specific for volume, some add body, some are for defining curls. Hold can be light to maximum. You can browse all mousse products available at Beauty Care Choices on a single page and find the right one for you!

Pomade - a styling product you can love!
Pomade is a hair styling product that has been used for decades to achieve many different hairstyles. Traditional pomades are oil based and very slick, but the more modern pomades are water based. It's easier to wash out and gives the hair a lighter hold. They are slightly more expensive than oil based ones but allow you to restyle throughout the day. Whether you have long or short hair, want slick backed hair, shiny hair, messy but styled hair, or spiked up hair, pomade is a great styling product to achieve the look and have it last all day long. Choices : A matte pomade has less shine and is best for hair that tends to get greasy quickly with pomade. A sheen pomade has much more shine and would be good for someone with dry hair. You can mix a matte pomade with a sheen pomade to create your own perfect balance. More Choices : If you're new to using pomade, start with one that has a light hold. This will allow you to get a feel for how to style your hair and still allow you to change the style throughout the day. Pomades that give a light hold are soft, and pomades that give a stronger hold are harder. If you have thicker hair, you might want to opt for a medium or strong hold. Try buying several different kinds of pomade to find the one that works best for your hair. Applying Pomade : Wash your hair first; pomades adhere best to clean hair. Apply pomade to towel dried but damp hair. This allows it to mix easily into your hair and looks much better when it dries. A little pomade goes a long way, so start with a small amount. Use your fingers to remove the pomade from the jar, then rub your fingers together to get it on all of your fingertips. Run your fingers through your hair where you want the pomade. Apply it evenly from just near the root to tips or just to the tips if that is where you need it. Do not get the pomade on your scalp. This makes it look greasy and is bad for the natural oils on your scalp. Styles to create : Short hair spikes are achieved by applying pomade to the tips and using your thumb and fingers to gently pull the tips of your hair in the direction you want to spike it. Just repeat this process until you've achieved the spiked look you want. A messy look is perfected using pomade. Apply using your fingertips, starting near the roots and pulling fingers to the tips of your hair; moving in an upward direction. Then gently tousle your hair , move side to side and front to back. Create a slick backed look by combing hair first to remove all tangles. Work the pomade into your hair and use your fingertips to move hair to wards the back of your head. Repeat until all you hair is pointing to the back of your head. Then use the palm of your hand to smooth you hair back, starting from near your hairline. Use pomade on long hair to create lift and separate layers from others. After separating the layers, apply the pomade to the underside of one layer, starting near the root and going down about 1 - 2 inches. Carefully let your hair fall back down on your head and it should be a little lifted off of the layer beneath. Pomade is also perfect for taming a ponytail or braid and keeping it neat throughout the day. Stray hairs and fly-away frizz disappears. You can also apply it lightly to the ends of your hair to hide split ends.

Kenra Professional... you see it in nearly every salon. Most of us have had our newly styled hair sprayed with Kenra's Volume Spray #25 at least once. This brand was founded in 1929 with a "no Tweeze" wax as a single product. That continued until the brand was purchased by barber and entrepreneur Henry J. Meyers in 1959. In 1960, the Kenra hair care line was launched, in 1987 Kenra Volme Spray 25 was launched and, in 2004 the Kenra Platinum line made its appearance. Heat Protectants
What is a Heat Protectant? A heat protectant is something that adds moisture to your hair while forming a protective barrier that reduces moisture loss when heat is applied to your hair shafts. Protectants are generally made with a formula that includes the combination of two silicones "“ cyclomethicone and dimethicone. While cyclomethicone moisturizes your hair, dimethicone coats it, making it smooth and preventing moisture loss. Most conditioners, leave-ins, and detanglers contain dimethicone, which leaves your hair feeling smooth and looking shiny. 4 Benefits of Using Heat Protectants Heat protectants smooth the cuticles on your hair shaft, making your hair less porous and therefore less prone to frizzing up in humidity. It restores moisture to your hair. Your hair is constantly thirsty for moisture. Using a protectant, especially before you heat style your hair, will keep your hair conditioned despite the heat. It prevents moisture loss by adding a protective layer on top of your hair shaft. This makes your hair less likely to lose moisture through the day because of factors like dehydration, heat, and a dry environment. It makes your hair more manageable by lubricating it, which means that your hair is easier to detangle and great to touch. 6 Tips to Protect Hair from Heat Damage Invest in good heat-based tools like the GHD Platinum+ Smart Styler. No matter how much you try to protect your hair, a bad tool is likely to leave irreparable damage. It is essential that you use a good heat styling tool that has ceramic or tourmaline plates and an adjustable heat setting. Use low temperatures for fine hair as it does not require a lot of heat to get the job done. Start at the lowest heat setting and work your way up to find the right temperature for your hair. Never use temperatures that go over 275-300 degrees Fahrenheit. Treat your hair with weekly hair mask and oiling sessions to ensure that it stays in top condition. Get advice from your hairdresser on what the best way to style your hair would be. If you barely use heat styling tools, get a professional to do it on the special occasions. Not only will it look great, but it is likely that they have a better heat protectant. 5 Things to Know About Heat Protectants Alcohol. Alcohol is a base for the ingredients to stay dissolved in; once sprayed, it evaporates. While this may protect your hair from the heat to some extent, the alcohol is likely to have a drying effect once it evaporates from your hair, leaving your hair feeling sticky and crunchy, so alcohol-based products are not recommended for dry hair. Silicone. Silicones, commonly dimethicone, forms a layer on your hair and makes your cuticles lie flat, so your hair doesn't frizz. You can find this ingredient in your everyday conditioner too! But remember, if you have oily hair, find a product with minimum silicone, as it will build up and make your hair greasy and flat. Not a good look! Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. This stuff is the bomb! This is what your hair will soak up, and it will help nourish it. It makes your hair soft. Your hair is made up of amino acids, which are broken down when heat is applied to them. This minimizes the damage since it is the wheat protein that is broken down and not the protein present in your hair. PVP /Dmapa Acrylates Copolymer. That's a mouthful but don't be intimidated by how it sounds. PVP, like silicones, helps in coating your hair and detangling it. Fewer snags and more protection! Quaternary 70. Found in higher end products, this helps to keep hair frizz free after heat styling. This keeps your hair smooth until you wash it again instead of wearing out as you get through your day.
